2009 Accomplishments - Lemon Law

In 2009,

• 261 motor vehicles were repurchased or replaced by manufacturers with savings to Georgia consumers in excess of $8.32 million.  This savings figure does not include the cash value of hundreds of vehicles that have been successfully repaired by the manufacturers to the satisfaction of the consumer, or for which an extended warranty has been provided.

• OCA issued 41 non-compliance letters and initiated actions against 29 motor vehicle dealers for failure to pay fees in a timely manner.  27 of the enforcement actions have been resolved to date, including several that remained pending at the end of 2008, and 3 remain pending.  The issuance of the non-compliance letters and the enforcement actions ultimately resulted in the collection of $14,309 delinquent fees and $3,000 fines.

OCA issued numerous collection notices and initiated over 38 enforcement actions.  These actions netted $11,070 in delinquent fees and $6,000 in civil penalties and fines.
