GSP - Trooper

Annual Salary Minimum: $31,474.08

Duties & Responsibilities: Under close supervision, patrols highways and road to enforce traffic and criminal laws. Investigates traffic crashes. Provides assistance to motorists. Assists other law enforcement agencies in enforcing traffic and criminal laws, and ensuring safety of general population. Participates in criminal prosecution. Provides security for Governor, First Lady, Lt. Governor, Chief Justice, Speaker of the House and other dignitaries.

Minimum Training & Experience: Applicant must be a US Citizen, possess a high school degree or G.E.D, be available for "statewide" assignment and be 21 years old by the time the Trooper school graduates.

Note: Applicants must also successfully pass the pre-employment process which includes the written exam, background and criminal records checks, oral interview, psychological evaluation, physical fitness evaluation, drug screen, polygraph and meet other requirements for certification as a peace officer by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST).

Medical Standards: Vision: minimum vision of 20/60 uncorrected in each eye, and corrected to 20/40 or better in both eyes with glasses or contact lenses. Additional medical standards must be met prior to final offer of employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Ninety quarter hours or the semester equivalent from an accredited college or university,
OR
Five years experience as a certified law enforcement officer,
OR
Two years of experience as a Police Corporal, Communications Equipment Officer or Cadet Trooper in the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
