Remembering TFC Chad LeCroy

(ATLANTA) - Funeral services were held Friday at the Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia for Trooper First Class Chadwick LeCroy. A horse-drawn caisson from the North Carolina Troopers Association carried TFC LeCroy from the funeral home to the church.
Hundreds of people lined the streets as the procession made its way to the church and also as the procession proceeded to the cemetery after the service.
TFC LeCroy was killed in the line of duty Monday night when he was shot as he approached a vehicle that had crashed following a brief pursuit.
TFC LeCroy, age 38 from Marietta, is survived by his wife and two sons. He joined the Georgia State Patrol in January 2008 and graduated the 85th Georgia State Patrol Trooper School in August of that year. He was a member of the Troop C Crime Suppression Unit.
TFC LeCroy died Monday night while being transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Around 11 p.m., he attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2007 Mazda that had only one headlight burning. Following a short pursuit, the Mazda crashed into a mailbox at the intersection of St. Paul Avenue and Hightower Road in West Atlanta. As the trooper approached the vehicle on the passenger side, the driver opened the passenger door and fired three shots at the trooper, one of which struck TFC LeCroy. The violator then left the scene in the trooper's patrol but was located a short time later through the cooperative efforts of the Atlanta Police and Cobb County Police departments.
A suspect was quickly apprehended. Authorities have charged Gregory Favors, age 30 of Atlanta, with murder and aggravated assault on a police officer. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail.
