Major David Brack (Biography)

Major David Brack serves as the Special Projects Adjutant.  He previously served as the Troop Commander in the rank of Captain for Troop I of the Georgia State Patrol that includes the posts in Rincon, Hinesville, Brunswick, Jekyll Island and Waycross until his promotion to the rank of Major.

As the Special Projects Adjutant, Major Brack supervises the daily operations of the Honor Guard, Governor's Task Force, Regional K-9 Task Force, GEMA/Homeland Security Liaison, FBI Liaison and the GISAC officer.

Major Brack joined the Georgia State Patrol in July 1980 as a Radio Operator at the Georgia State Patrol post in Perry and was promoted to Trooper in July 1982.  He graduated from the 56th Georgia State Patrol Trooper School in November 1982 and was assigned to GSP Perry.  He was promoted to Corporal in the Training Unit in March 1992 and later served as the Corporal and Assistant Post Commander at GSP Forsyth.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant at GSP Milledgeville in December 1993 and to Post Commander and the rank of Sergeant First Class at GSP Perry in September 1995.  He earned the rank of Lieutenant in August 2000 and served as the Assistant Troop Commander for GSP Troop H which includes field posts in Perry, Cordele, Douglas, Tifton, and Valdosta.  In March 2001, he joined the State of Georgia SWAT and served as the Lieutenant of the unit.  In August 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and charged with the responsibility of creating the Operations Review Unit.  He researched and developed the fundamentals for Operations Review to evaluate the quality of the Department’s operations; ensure the agency’s goals are being pursued; and identify the need for additional resources.  Captain Brack transferred to GSP Troop I as the Troop Commander in March 2006.

Major Brack has received advanced counter-terrorism training and extensive Special Response Team training.  In 1987, he was among a select group of Georgia State Troopers who trained for a month with the elite GSG-9 counter-terrorism group in Hangelar, Germany.   Additionally, Major Brack served for several years on the initial GSP SWAT team.  He has served as a Field Training Officer and also as a member of the Georgia State Patrol Honor Guard.  While a member of the Honor Guard, Major Brack received specialized training with the United States Marines at Parris Island, South Carolina.  In preparation for the 2004 G8 Summit on Sea Island, Major Brack was designated as the Tactical Commander and in that capacity designed the make-up of the mobile field force response units and was responsible for the mobile field force training.  In 2000, he received the Department of Public Safety’s Valor Award, the highest award a department member can earn.  He has also earned the Commissioner’s Commendation for his work in drug seizures and in his first year of patrolling after graduating Trooper School, he earned the Department’s Proficiency Award based on his work in DUI enforcement.

He was born in Dublin and graduated from Dublin High School.  His civic honors include receiving the Key to the City of Warner Robins and designation as an Honorary Citizen of the City of Perry.  Two of his sons, Duke and Drew, currently serve in the United States Military.  He is married to the former Tammy Jackson of Wilkinson County and they have two children, Elizabeth and Jackson, ages 10 and eight respectively.  The Bracks regularly attend Dudley Baptist Church and are residents of Laurens County.
