The Technology Section provides service and support to all DPS personnel in areas related to information technology and communications. The section is tasked with the purchase, installation, maintenance and training for computers and software, as well as landline and mobile telephone equipment.

The IT Business Analyst analyzes customer business needs and participates in the planning, design and implementation of new or enhanced systems. The Business Analyst supports the user community in the use of functional business tools and support systems.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the IT Business Analyst include the following:

  • Administers training for business users

  • Analyzes information to determine nature and extent of customer requirements and concerns

  • Assists in the development of standards and procedures used in development of new or enhancement of existing systems

  • Consults with vendors or technical staff to insure that functionality of automated system is consistent with adherence to laws, regulations, and best practice standards by users

  • Develops change management plans for transition to new or upgraded systems

  • Documents business processes for users of new or upgraded systems

  • Participates in evaluation of new technologies or solutions to improve service and efficiency of systems

  • Participates in the establishment of standards and procedures to be used in the development of systems

  • Provides customer support in the maintenance of systems

  • Researches and analyzes system/user problems by applying a variety of analytical and research techniques

  • Tests or coordinates testing of new installations or upgrades

Other Duties:

In addition to the Business Analyst role described above, the successful candidate will also have the flexibility to work within the sub-units of the Technology Section (Networking, Technical Support, Application Development, CAD/RMS and Telecommunications).  These other duties may account for approximately 50% of their working time.

Training/Learning Opportunities:

If there is a specific focus area within the Technology Section that the applicant is interested in pursuing, there will be opportunities for on-the-job training and development, specifically within the sub-units mentioned above.

The position is located at DPS headquarters in the Grant Park area.  The facility is easily accessible, just outside downtown Atlanta. Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in a related field Or Associate degree in a related field and two years of related experience Or Two years at the lower level or equivalent (ITP060).

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge, ability, and experience in the following areas:

  • Analytics, Planning and Research

  • Network Administration

  • Geographic Information Systems/Mapping

  • Application Development/Programming

  • Helpdesk (Technical) Support
