Salary minimum: $22,519.63

The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Telecommunications Tech 2 in the Garage of the Administrative Services Division.

DPS operates a full service garage operation at its headquarters location in Atlanta. The Garage procures and outfits for use all Georgia State Patrol vehicles. Vehicle identification markings, blue lights, communications and other specialized law enforcement equipment are installed by the Garage. Vehicle repairs are either handled in-house or contracted out to private sources. A parts department is maintained and the Garage also handles vehicle surplus and a wrecker service.

A typical workday includes, but is not limited to:

  • Install, troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment to include: mobile and portable radios, antennas, vehicle repeaters, video camera systems, docks and printers.

  • Utilizes checklists (new car checklist, new car install checklist, and repair checklist) to ensure repairs and installations have been inspected and operating properly before the vehicle is released to the customer.
    Performs preventative maintenance on radios and electronic equipment, program with latest programming, ensure firmware update has been completed, and properly labeled before placing in storage.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience in customer service or providing information to the public.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge and experience in two way radio systems and installation.
