GEORGIA TROOPERS TO JOIN NATIONAL LIFESAVER WEEKEND

(ATLANTA) - The Georgia State Patrol will join law enforcement agencies across the United States and Canada for National Holiday Lifesaver Weekend, December 19-21.  This is the 12th year of the safety program designed to encourage safe travel during the Christmas holiday period.

Georgia State Patrol Commander Colonel George Ellis said state troopers will be keeping an extra close eye out for impaired drivers during their weekend patrols.  “This time of year is especially dangerous on our roads and that danger is only compounded by alcohol and drug impaired drivers,” he said.  “We are joining this nationwide effort because it focuses on driving behaviors that kill across the nation – this is not just a local problem.”

National Holiday Lifesaver Weekend is coordinated by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and is part of Operation C.A.R.E., or Combined Accident Reduction Effort.  Operation C.A.R.E. is designed to reduce the number of traffic deaths nationwide through coordinated enforcement efforts, including high visibility patrols, concentrated patrols and road checks.
