HOV Enforcement Unit

The HOV Unit is responsible for the enforcement of High Occupancy Vehicle Lane restriction and Communications. Officers of this unit patrol High Occupancy Lane miles in the Metro-Atlanta area. Officers also conduct Motor Safety Inspections and enforce truck lane restrictions.

Compliance Review and Safety Audits

Officers of this unit conduct interstate and intrastate safety compliance reviews. The review is intended to provide information to evaluate the safety performance and regulatory compliance of trucking companies operation. This unit is also responsible for preparation of civil penalty cases for prosecution of serious safety violations found during these reviews.

School Bus Safety

Officers of this unit are responsible for the annual safety inspections of the state’s 17,000 public school buses. In addition to their primary responsibility of bus inspection, other responsibilities include; conducting safety meetings and commercial motor vehicle inspections.

Honor Guard

Officers in this section provide assistance at funerals when requested for current and retired members. This unit also provides a color guard team to present the flags at special events.

Public Information and Education

This program involves extensive outreach by the Motor Carrier Compliance Division to the trucking industry, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary. This office also provides material and other handouts related to commercial vehicle safety topics.

Training

The Training Unit is detached to the GSP training Division for operational effectiveness and uniformity. In conjunction with the GSP training Division this unit is responsible for the professional development, training, and continuing education of all the officers assigned to the Motor Carrier Compliance Division, and for other agencies wishing to learn about commercial vehicle enforcement.
