The Georgia State Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash on I-16 near MM 155 in Chatham County. Troopers were dispatched to the crash at approximately 5:55 a.m. The crash involved two passenger vehicles. Initial indication is that a red Ford Mustang was traveling westbound on I-16, when the vehicle crossed the median and struck a grey Kia Soul that was traveling eastbound on I-16.

There were three occupants in the Mustang and two in the Kia. All five died on scene. The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collison Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow-up investigation.

At this time both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of I-16 remain closed.

The names of the deceased will be released once the next of kin has been notified.
