The Georgia State Patrol is monitoring weather and road conditions in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Transportation and Georgia Emergency Management. Troopers are cautioning drivers to carefully monitor weather reports frequently as they travel and be prepared for driving conditions to deteriorate. As temperatures continue to fall, hazardous driving conditions will set in, first with the bridges and overpasses.

2013-14 New Year's Holiday Traffic Count

January 1, 2014

Traffic crashes across Georgia during the New Year's holiday travel period resulted in five fatalities. Traffic deaths were reported by the Georgia State Patrol post in Cartersville, Waycross Police, Marietta Police, and two fatalities by the Cobb County Police Department. State Troopers investigated 137 traffic crashes with 52 injuries during the 30-hour holiday period.

Georgia State Troopers Remind Drivers of Traffic Safety for Holiday Travels

As the Christmas and New Year’s holiday travel periods rapidly approach, the Georgia State Patrol is reminding drivers to use extra caution when traveling across the state. Colonel Mark W. McDonough, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety, said state troopers will be on patrols looking to spot impaired drivers and people not using seat belts.

Georgia State Troopers will be keeping a close eye out for occupant protection violations this week as part of Operation Click It or Ticket, Georgia’s high visibility seat belt enforcement program. The enforcement wave will last through the Thanksgiving holiday period which ends Sunday, December 1 at midnight.

Motor Carrier Officers to a Conduct Statewide Traffic Enforcement Detail

Officers with the Motor Carrier Compliance Division of the Georgia Department of Public Safety will conduct a three-day statewide traffic enforcement safety detail focusing on the unsafe operation of motorcoaches and buses. The operation will begin on Monday, November 25 and end on Wednesday, November 27, and is a part of a nationwide motorcoach and bus safety event encouraged and endorsed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
