Hurricane Matthew Travel Advisory
Hurricane Matthew is a powerful Category 4 storm that is forecasted to come close to coastal Georgia on Friday. Georgia residents in coastal areas EAST of Interstate 95 are under a MANDATORY EVACUATION. The six coastal counties include: Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, McIntosh, Glynn, and Camden. Click here for a map of the mandatory evacuation areas.
Also, residents on barrier islands and in low-lying, coastal areas WEST of Interstate 95 are encouraged to voluntarily evacuate and move inland.
Georgia State Troopers and Motor Carrier Compliance Officers are working alongside the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the Georgia Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency (GEMHSA) to contraflow traffic on Interstate 16 from Savannah through US 441 in Dublin to allow evacuation traffic to use all four lanes in the westbound direction. Please do not go around barriers and obey law enforcement commands staged along the evacuation route. Also, make sure that your vehicle has a full tank of gas. Click here for more information on the process of the Interstate 16 contraflow.
