Administrative Services

The DPS Administrative Services Section is responsible for providing support services to all divisions of The Department of Public Safety.  Those services include, but are not limited to: Property Management, Facilities Maintenance & Construction, Vehicle Services, DPS Garage, and Supply.  Administrative Services is also responsible for the Government Sales Program which sell retired DPS vehicles to other law enforcement agencies.

Property Management

The Property Management Unit is responsible for maintaining an inventory for the Department of Public Safety. This includes DPS Headquarters, 50 State Patrol Posts, 10 Motor Carrier Compliance Division Regions, Aviation, and Capitol Police as well as various specialty units and administratively attached agencies.  All assets purchased, donated and/or transferred with an acquisition cost of $1,000.00 or more and all weapons, computers and communication equipment regardless of cost are recorded and managed using the statewide system, PeopleSoft.  Insurance Claim Services is charged with processing and filing insurance loss claims for all divisions of DPS.  Incidents of loss claims that exceeded the required $1000.00 deductible are filed with DOAS Risk Management.  

Facilities Maintenance and Construction

This section is responsible for coordinating major repairs and maintenance projects for all departmental facilities.  This includes DPS Headquarters, 50 State Patrol Posts, 10 Motor Carrier Compliance Division Regions, Aviation, and Capitol Police as well as various specialty units and administratively attached agencies. The division also oversees the planning and construction of new facilities; including maintaining liaisons with local governments, architects, engineers, contractors and other state agencies involved in facility construction and management.

DPS Garage

The Department of Public Safety operates a full service garage operation at its headquarters location in Atlanta.  The Garage procures and outfits for use all Georgia State Patrol vehicles.  Vehicle identification markings, blue lights, communications and other specialized law enforcement equipment are installed by the Garage.  Vehicle repairs are either handled in-house or contracted out to private sources.  An in-house Radio Shop installs, repairs, and replaces two-way communications, video electronic equipment, and or computer supported devices.A parts department is maintained and the Garage also handles vehicle surplus and a wrecker service. 

Vehicle Support Services

Aligned with the Garage, the Vehicle Support Services section maintains a computerized information system that provides costs, utilizations and management information on all vehicles owned by the Georgia Department of Public Safety.  Vehicle Support Services also handles claims for repairs to departmental vehicles involved in crashes, and orders departmental vehicle tags, titles and fuel cards. This section is also responsible for the DPS Government Sales Program where DPS vehicles that have been retired from service and are deemed to meet a fair, good, or excellent standard are offered to other law enforcement and publicly funded agencies.  DPS vehicles that do not sell are publicly auctioned along with other DPS vehicles meeting a less than fair condition standard and those that are inoperable due to mechanical failure or accident damage.

Supply

The Supply Unit is responsible for shipping, receiving and maintaining law enforcement equipment and supplies, including uniform clothing, weapons and accessories.   Office and janitorial supplies are also stocked.   Supply fills all requisitions and ships to specified locations.  They also administer a yearly count of all items to affirm an accurate inventory, which is maintained by the Supply Inventory Unit.
