The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Criminal Intelligence Analyst 1 in the Office of Professional Standards (OPS).

The Office of Professional Standards (OPS) supports the mission and core beliefs of the Department of Public Safety and is dedicated to protecting the integrity of the department through ensuring adherence to ethical standards, performance criteria, and commitment to public service. OPS perform its function by conducting a variety of investigations, including internal affairs matters, pre-employment background cases, and violations of speed detection device permits.

The Criminal Intelligence Analyst 1 is the key point of contact between the Office of Professional Standards and the Human Resources Division, coordinating activities for files received in the pre-employment process. This position also assists in conducting internal, administrative, speed detection device and criminal investigations.

Other key functions of the role include:

  • Coordinate with the Human Resources Division on files received for the pre-employment process.

  • Review pre-employment personal data for applicants and screen for automatic disqualification.
  • Enter information and maintain databases relevant to pre-employment process, including applicant polygraph examinations.
  • Gather and analyze data from pre-employment process for various statistical reports.
  • Schedule applicants for polygraph appointments as appropriate.
  • Track all pre-employment investigation files through the process in the Office of Professional Standards
  • Provide written articulation to summarize pre-employment actions.
  • Assist in assignment of pre-employment investigations to field personnel.
  • Receive and review field pre-employment investigations to ensure adequate information is included to support findings.
  • Perform investigative research through open and restricted data sources for inclusion in pre-employment investigations;
  • Perform other duties as necessary in the pre-employment coordination process.

  • Proof investigative summaries and offer edit solutions when appropriate
  • Assist in developing graphics based on analysis of investigative related data in support of investigations
  • Identify and utilize common and/or specialized software for investigative data research, organization, and analysis; identify activity trends and linkages, compiles graphics for commonalities, link analysis and time lines
  • May assess cases to determine what type of data should be collected and the method of collection
  • Travel as appropriate to complete job assignments and tasks
  • Perform other duties as assigned in investigative support.
  • Enter information and maintain databases relevant to investigations
  • Research, gather, review, analyze data, related to permits issuance, use of force, annual activity, report results, and others, as assigned by the OPS Director or designee.
  • Log complaints from written correspondence, telephone or in person and forward appropriately;
  • Screen complaints/inquiries to establish that the essential elements exist relative to jurisdiction, timeliness, etc. according to the laws, rules, and agency policies and procedures;
  • Interpret applicable statutes, regulations and policies in order to resolve the complaint
  • Compile and prepares reports from information submitted and/or tracking data for legal requirements and to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations;
  • May be required to ensure database information is maintained on case intake and dispositions;
  • Prepare summary reports, maintain case files and documentation of case;
  • Perform other general job related duties as assigned;
  • May act as point of contact with anticipated early warning system software.

Minimum Training & Experience: Completion of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Law enforcement or law enforcement related experience.

  • Articulable proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.

  • Proficient typing skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications.

  • Completion of training related to job tasks (computer or law enforcement, and other).
