Overview and Purpose of the DPS Public Information Office:

The Public Information Office (PIO) consists of four units: Media Relations, Social Media, Publications, and Documents. The Public Information Office staff provides research and clearance for media inquiries and interview requests for 52 Georgia State Patrol posts, 10 Motor Carrier Compliance regions, including the Statewide School Bus Safety Region 10, and Capitol Police. PIO also assists with special projects as assigned, by the director, and the Command Staff, as well as assists other units within the department.

 

Social Media

The Social Media unit manages the department’s social media presence on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. It also oversees the department’s website. This unit works closely with the Command Staff to understand their initiatives and goals and adopt ways to give unanimity of voice on the sites.

Publications and Graphics

PIO Publications is responsible for the production of the bi-monthly DPS newsletter, the DPS Annual Report, and other departmental publications. It also provides graphic design and special projects support to the GSP Recruitment Unit, as well as other units within the department. PIO has professional video camera equipment for covering Department functions/events, high-resolution digital camera equipment for brochure and web page development and graphic printers for better in-house publications.

 

Overview and Purpose of the Position:

The Graphic and Visual Art Spec 1 will assist the Public Information Office in achieving its communications goals. There may also be some travel, under the direct supervision of the PIO director to provide support in administrative duties as assigned. Primarily, the position will be responsible for assisting the Media Relations, Social Media and Publications and Graphics Units in their daily tasks, including special projects. These tasks may include, taking photos, assisting in campaign development, and creating content for social media, and the department’s website, to name a few. This position will also support the recruiting efforts of the department and work closely with the Recruiting Unit on major projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university OR Vocational/Technical degree in graphic arts, applied arts, commercial art, fine arts or a related field from an accredited college OR Three years of professional related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Possess computer skills or familiarity in Word, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Stock, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro,  and After Effects) or other desktop publishing experience using video editing software.
