The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Paralegal 2 in the Legal Services Division.

The Legal Services Office provides assistance to the Commissioner and to the employees of the Department concerning matters associated with the daily operations of the Department and serves as the primary liaison with the Office of the Attorney General.

This position is perfect for candidates who seek a challenging opportunity to work on a wide variety of issues that impact public safety.

Key responsibilities:

  •  Prepare case files for the ALS Attorney in preparation for various court locations.

  • Compile incident reports, crash reports (if applicable), hearing notices, conflict letters etc., concerning each individual ALS case.
  • Subpoena witnesses when needed
  • Create and email an ALS Calendar to the troopers that lists the cases to be heard in each location that the ALS Attorney will appear during the month and the documents that they need to bring to court.

  • Assist ALS Attorney in preparing various letters and motions. (Ex. Motion for Continuance, Conflict Letters, Letters to Reinstate, Motion to Change Hearing Location)

  • Maintain a list of ALS cases where the ALS Attorney was able to attend during the month.

  • Prepare a monthly list of motions, briefs, letters, and any other documents filed with the court.

  • Proof and edit PowerPoint materials for DUI/ALS training classes.

  • Handles general office duties including phone calls, emails, faxes, ordering supplies, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree in paralegal studies from an accredited college or university OR certificate from a paralegal training program AND One year of experience in a legal environment OR Two years of experience as a legal assistant in a legal environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an environment that required knowledge of Georgia law

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office

  • Experience handling a high volume caseload.
