The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Employment Manager in the Human Resources Division.

 

The Employment Manager is responsible for leading and managing the department’s employment program. This position reports to the Deputy HR Director and supervises three HR Techs and one HR Generalist.

 

This position is perfect for a candidate who would enjoy supporting our current and future law enforcement heroes by assisting candidates for law enforcement and civilian positions.  This is an exciting time to join our department. We have strong organizational values, a family-like work culture with a supportive Command Staff, and we are scheduled to move into a newly constructed headquarters building in spring 2023.

 

We are looking for someone who can effectively:

  1. Lead, manage and motivate both professional and paraprofessional human resource staff. 
  2. Interact with and provide guidance/support to agency leaders, managers and departmental (sworn) recruiters.
  3. Deliver quality and accurate results in a fast-paced environment, and plan and prioritize multiple assignments to meet established deadlines, and
  4. Recommend new approaches, processes, and procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of services performed.

 

This position requires occasional travel to locations throughout the State of Georgia (mostly to the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, GA). The selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation. This includes a review of criminal, driver’s and credit history. No polygraph examination is required for this position.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Formulates and recommends the Employment program goals and objectives and manages the DPS employment processes.
  • Provides consultation, advice and assistance to management and sworn recruiting staff on recruiting and employment related matters to ensure compliance with departmental policies, and federal & state employment laws.
  • Plans and organizes the unit's work to meet the department’s objectives. Directs and reviews work assignments. Oversees unit staff in collecting and analyzing data and in making recommendations.
  • Works closely with other HR staff to ensure the effective flow of work across all HR programs and processes.
  • Provides input into the development and revision of personnel related policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND Three years of supervisory/management human resource experience. Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience, and competencies required to successfully perform the job may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recruiting experience with the public sector.
  • PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification
  • Possess a well-developed knowledge of federal and state laws, rules and regulations as related to recruitment and employment.
  • Experience in policy & procedure development.
  • HR Generalist experience
