Office of Professional Standards - Licensing Technician

The Office of Professional Standards (OPS) supports the Mission and Core Beliefs of the Department of Public Safety and is dedicated to protecting the integrity of the department through ensuring adherence to ethical standards, performance criteria, and commitment to public service. OPS performs its function by conducting a variety of investigations, including internal affairs matters, pre-employment background cases, and alleged misuse of speed detection devices by local law enforcement agencies.

The Licensing Technician enters information into and maintains the license database; reviews initial and renewal applications for compliance; and issues the Emergency Light and Window Tint exemption permits. The Licensing Technician maintains documentation including current licensing for information for the DPS Commissioner and for DPS Legal Services should questions arise. The Licensing Technician will develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of Georgia Statutes and Department of Public Safety Administrative Rules that pertain to the use and maintenance of speed detection devices and Emergency Light and Window Tint exemption permits.

Other key functions of the role include:

  • This position is the first point of contact for all customers and employees of the OPS unit. They present the first impression by greeting customers, answering phones, receiving, and delivering mail. They also assist with directing customers to the correct person and/or destination.
  • Maintaining the revenue generated from the issuance of these permits.
  • Develop a strong working relationship with members of the Accounting Section to ensure compliance with monies generated from the issuance of these permits.
  • Working closely with sworn OPS members regarding investigations of the abuse of these permits.
  • Working with other OPS staff involved in the pre-employment process to schedule polygraph examinations for applicants; maintain polygraph information on Department database; greet and assists applicants who come for polygraph exams, and assists Polygraph Examiners with administrative support. May be trained to operate the electronic fingerprint device to submit fingerprints on applicants, as needed.

 

This position provides for a healthy work/home life balance with working hours on Monday thru Friday and the possibility of flexible hours.

Selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation. This includes a review of criminal, driver’s and credit history. No polygraph examination is required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with customer support.

Experience with using computers and data entry.
