The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). The Office of Professional Standards (OPS) supports the mission and core beliefs of the Department of Public Safety and is dedicated to protecting the integrity of the department through ensuring adherence to ethical standards, performance criteria, and commitment to public service. OPS performs its function by conducting a variety of investigations, including internal affairs matters, pre-employment background cases, and violations of speed detection device permits.
Critical Responsibilities include:
- Administers polygraph examinations for criminal investigations, internal investigations, and pre-employment purposes.
- Completes and maintains all required standard forms, papers, documents, and files that comprise polygraph case files and reports.
- Conducts interviews with investigating officers, witnesses, suspects, court personnel, and others.
- Presents testimony regarding confessions, statements, and information developed as a result of interviews and polygraph examinations.
- May conduct speed detection device investigations and/or internal affair investigations.
The selected candidates must successfully complete:
• An approved basic internal affairs investigations training.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of related experience OR Three years of experience in law enforcement or related field OR One year experience required at the lower level Criminal Investigator 1 (PSP090) or position equivalent AND P.O.S.T Certification.Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of an APA accredited polygraph school.
- Five (5) years of experience as a Polygraph Examiner.
- Ten (10) years of experience in a criminal investigations capacity.
- Prior advanced training and skills in interview and interrogation
- 4-year degree from an Accredited College or University.
