The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Secretary 3 in the Human Resources Division.

DPS Human Resources provides a full array of services including recruitment and employment, job development and compensation analysis, policy consultation, personnel and benefits processing, management and employee relations, background screening and career development for 1400+ employees.

This position has primary responsibility for assisting human resources staff in the effective delivery of our services.   The selected candidate will receive exposure and/or experience in all of the DPS Human Resource service areas. As such, this position is perfect for someone who wishes to start a career in the human resource field.

Key responsibilities:

  • Answers the telephone for the main human resources phone line and greets visitors in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Processes and distributes Special Orders and Detached Duty Orders to agency personnel.
  • Establishes and maintains filing and record-keeping systems.
  • Coordinates the Faithful Service Awards program.
  • Assists with New Hire Paperwork and Orientation.
  • Verifies employment eligibility and ensures proper documentation is obtained.
  • Verifies employment on current and past employees.
  • Processes requests for Off-Duty employment.

The successful candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook, with some experience in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint desired. Candidates must also have the ability to effectively plan and prioritize multiple assignments to meet established deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of general office work

         (or)

  • One year of business school or college.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous state government experience.
  • Previous experience working in a Human Resources office.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, or similar HRIS.
