The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police Division (CPD) and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVE). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Business Support Analyst 1 in Planning & Research.

 

The Business Analyst is responsible for providing analytical, administrative, and project coordination support to ensure departmental policies, records, and special initiatives are effectively managed. The position serves as a central point of coordination for the departmental Policy Manual review process, records management and retention requirements, and special projects assigned by DPS Leadership.  This position allows creativity as you will assist in planning major events throughout DPS area of responsibility.

 

Critical Responsibilities:

Under supervision, performs complex administrative duties and statistical, financial, or operational data analysis and reporting in support of management decision making in functional area. Identifies trends, discrepancies, and variances to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. May partner with other departments, divisions, outside agencies, and vendors to address business issues. Exercises various latitudes of independent judgment. May administer or provide high level support for various projects, grants, contracts, implementation of procedures, and/or any specialized functions.

 

DPS Policy Manual:

  • Coordinate the ongoing review, revision, and maintenance of the Departmental Policy Manual.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule for periodic policy reviews to ensure policies remain current and relevant.
  • Schedule and coordinate Policy Manual review meetings with appropriate departmental representatives.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, distribute policies and supporting materials in advance, and maintain documentation of review activities.
  • Track proposed policy revisions, assignments, approvals, and outstanding action items through completion.
  • Maintain version control and accurate records of policy changes, approvals, effective dates, and historical versions.
  • Coordinate with policy owners to ensure approved revisions are incorporated into the Departmental Policy Manual in a timely manner.
  • Identify policies requiring review due to operational changes, organizational changes, legislative, or established review cycles.
  • Provide periodic status reports to management regarding policies under review, pending actions, and completed revisions.

 

Records Retention:

  • Coordinate departmental records management and retention activities in accordance with established policies, retention schedules, and applicable requirements.
  • Serve as a departmental resource regarding proper records organization, maintenance, storage, retention, and disposition.
  • Maintain documentation of records disposition and other records-management activities as required.

 

Special Projects:

  • Coordinate and support special projects as assigned by departmental leadership
  • Develop project plans, timelines, milestones, action items, and status reports

 

Desired Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Project Coordination or Management experience.
  • High attention to detail, time management, and ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

 

Selected applicant must pass a pre-employment background investigation. This includes a review of criminal, driver’s and credit history. No polygraph examination is required for this position.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate degree in business or related field from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience related to area of assignment. Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
