The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD).
DPS is seeking qualified applicants to fill the Director of Accounting position to oversee the accounting, revenue and payroll units of DPS and its administratively attached agencies. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Critical Responsibilities include:
- Manages human resources in all accounting sections: AP, Payroll, Revenue, GL, Grants. Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines employees.
- Directs the balancing and analysis of all modules of PeopleSoft/TeamWorks to the trial balance monthly. Verifies all required reports are run each month and saved to the reports server.
- Maintains security for agency user to accounting and HR systems (TeamWorks) and agency bank accounts.
- Provides professional guidance and assistance in the solution of complex accounting and financial problems.
- Works with the Budget Office and Comptroller to assure year-end close is completed timely and agency funds are not overspent
- Serves as contact for the Department of Audits and Accounts (DOAA) or other auditors and coordinates the retrieval of documents requested.
- Coordinates the preparation of all necessary year-end forms for DOAA and the State Accounting Office to document the proper closing of the Department’s Financial statements.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of professional level experience in accounting and/or a closely related fiscal activity, Three years of which in a management/supervisory role OR One year of experience required at the lower level Mgr 2, Account/Financial Svcs (FIM011) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Eight (8) years of professional level experience in accounting
- Five (5) years of experience using State of Georgia Teamworks/PeopleSoft
- State of Georgia Financial statement preparation and general ledger analysis (CAFR)
