MCCD Officer Cadet Application and Employment Process

  1. APPLICATION

To apply for a MCCD Officer Cadet position and initiate the employment process, interested candidates must complete a State of Georgia application for employment (list job code 17805).

  1. WRITTEN EXAMINATION

Applicants will be given a written, multiple-choice test (click here for more information on testing dates and locations). Test subject areas and number of questions in each area are: Converting Inches to Feet (11); Mathematics (13); Chart Reading (13); Reading and Interpreting Written Materials (11); Spelling (15); Written Expression (11); and Map Reading (12).

After you have taken the test you will receive a Notice of Examination Results. Passing scores normally range from 70 to 100. If you have filed the proper documents (e.g.DD-214), your eligibility for veteran’s preference will be reflected on the Notice of Examination Results. You can apply to retake the written test three (3) times in a one-year period, with a 30-day waiting period between examinations.

Employment in law enforcement agencies involves public trust.  Only those persons whose conduct, character and behavior which does not discredit either themselves or the Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be employed.  The DPS employment process will address the integrity, ethical conduct, honesty, prejudices, financial responsibility (credit), and past behavior of all applicants (click here to view the employment disqualifiers).

  3. MEDICAL SCREENING (HEARING AND VISION STANDARDS)

Vision: minimum vision of 20/100 uncorrected in each eye, and corrected to 20/40 or better in both eyes with glasses or contact lenses. Additional medical standards must be met prior to final offer of employment.
