Police Corporal Application and Employment Process

APPLICATION
To apply for a Police Corporal position and initiate the employment process, interested candidates must complete a State of Georgia application for employment (list job code 17406) and a Background Packet prior to attending a written examination.
- WRITTEN EXAMINATION
Applicants will be given a written general skills test (click here for more information on testing dates and locations). After you have taken the test you will receive a Notice of Examination Results. Passing scores normally range from 70 to 100. If you have filed the proper documents (e.g.DD-214), your eligibility for veteran’s preference will be reflected on the Notice of Examination Results. If you did not do as well as you expected on the written test you will be able to apply again after a one year waiting period.

Employment in law enforcement agencies involves public trust. Only those persons whose conduct, character and behavior which does not discredit either themselves or the Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be employed. - PHYSICAL FITNESS ASSESSMENT
The Physical Fitness Program is an evaluation based on the recommendation of the Cooper's Institute in terms of absolute standards (same job = same standard). The standards are reflective of the minimum fitness level and individual must possess to perform their job regardless of their age or gender. The following events will comprise the assessment:

Vision: minimum vision of 20/60 uncorrected in each eye, and corrected to 20/40 or better in both eyes with glasses or contact lenses. Additional medical standards must be met prior to final offer of employment.
