The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). We currently have an opening for a MCCD Compliance Specialist 1 (Safety Audit)  in the Motor Carrier Compliance Division.

The Compliance Specialist is assigned ongoing responsibility for personally administering the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Program and Department of Public Safety rules on a State-wide basis.  This encompasses motor carriers of all types and sizes.  In promoting and enforcing compliance with the applicable laws and regulations, the investigator acts independently within general program objectives and a largely self-developed and self-adjusted area work plan. 

Critical Responsibilities:

  • The employee analyzes compliance review/safety audit, enforcement, and inspection results, accident and incident reports, complaints
  • Independently plans and carries out a schedule of safety, economic, security, and hazardous materials investigations of carrier operations;
  • Conducts investigations into alleged violations either as follow up to an investigation or in response to complaints
  • Conducts inspections at a fixed facility under the oversite of a MCCD officer
  • Conducts in-depth investigations into the causes of highway accidents and hazardous material incidents involving motor carriers
  • Provides technical assistance and information, frequently as an organizer or participant in safety meetings, seminars, or training programs
  • Keeps abreast of industry problems and trends, vehicle technology, rapidly changing hazardous materials developments

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor Degree in related field from an accredited college or university OR Associate’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND one year of related experience OR High school diploma or GED AND two years of related experience. Note: This position will require a valid driver's license.

Applicants must be currently certified by FMCSA to conduct safety audits or complete the training within one year of assignment to Region 10.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Applicant must be North American Standard Certified, Hazardous Materials Certified or obtain within 12 months and must successfully complete FMCSA Investigation and Safety Analysis (formerly Compliance Review) class.
  • Preferred for candidates to reside in these areas.

  • Applicant has previous experience in Motor Carrier Safety specific to the rules, regulations and laws of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
