The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Purchasing Asst 2 in the Fleet Services Unit of the Support Services Division.


Support Services offers a full array of services including planning, directing, managing, coordinating, and supervising the programs for acquisition, assignment utilization, maintenance, repair, replacement, and disposal of fleet vehicles. The Logistics Unit is responsible for providing needed equipment associated with vehicle upfitting. The member will be responsible for assisting the Equipment Operations Manager in fulfilling equipment requests from internal, state contracted vendors, and other associated parties.

 A typical workday includes, but is not limited to:


  • Receiving, unpacking, and storing fleet parts and supplies.


  • Verifies shipment for appropriate quantity and quality using purchase orders, invoices, and packing slips.


  • Places materials in proper storage areas using correct equipment, including manual lifting of boxes and other items.


  • Interacting and providing positive customer service to members of the department.


  • Operating state vehicles to pick up and/or deliver materials or equipment.


  • Performing housekeeping duties to include sweeping and cleaning of warehouse area.


  • Organizes and arranges warehouse stock to ensure accessibility and orderliness.


  • Required to walk and stand for extended periods of time. Required to lift and move heavy objects weighing up to 75 pounds.


Selected applicants must pass a pre-employment background investigation. This includes a review of criminal, driver’s, and credit history. No polygraph examination is required for this position.


Minimum Qualifications:


Associate degree from an accredited college or university OR Two years of experience in materials management OR One year of experience at the lower level Purchasing Asst 1 (FET040) or position equivalent.


Preferred Qualifications:
1. Ability to operate a van or medium sized box truck

2. Experience and knowledge of inventory control methods.

3. Ability to operate equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.

4. Valid CDL/Class E Driver’s License.
