On Sunday, July 2, 2023, at 11:39 pm, Troopers from the Nighthawks South and Post 42 Rincon were assisting the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office with a pursuit on Interstate 16 West, in Effingham County, which ended in a crash and an exchange of gunfire.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating this incident and all media inquiries should be directed to the GBI Public Affairs Office at [email protected].
