Eighteen People Killed in Memorial Day Holiday Travel Period Crashes
ATLANTA- Traffic crashes across Georgia during the Memorial Day holiday travel period resulted in 18 traffic deaths. The 78-hour holiday period began Friday, May 26, at 6 p.m. and ended Monday at 11:59 p.m.
Statewide, Georgia State Troopers investigated 414 traffic crashes that resulted in 204 injuries. Troopers also investigated 5 fatal crashes. The fatal crashes occurred in Fulton, Rabun, Dougherty, and Baldwin counties. Local agencies reporting traffic deaths during the holiday period were: Clayton Co. PD, Gwinnett Co. PD, Henry Co. PD, Fulton Co. PD, Bibb Co. S/O, Columbus PD, Atlanta PD, Cobb Co. PD, Monroe Co. S/O, and East Point PD.
In addition to crash investigations, State Troopers arrested 262 people for driving under the influence.
