(ATLANTA, GA) – This year marks the tenth year that the Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) is teaming up with the United States Marine Corps Reserve for the annual Toys for Tots program to collect new, unwrapped toys for less fortunate children during the Christmas season.

Colonel Mark W. McDonough, DPS Commissioner, announced today that all 52 Georgia State Patrol posts and 19 Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) weigh stations across the state would serve as Toys for Tots collection points between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. during weekdays.

Additional collection sites are in the lobby at the Georgia Department of Public Safety Headquarters in Atlanta and the Capitol Police Services office near the Georgia State Capitol Building.

All donations will stay in the county in which they are given to help benefit local children.

“Members of our department are committed to helping people in their local communities and this is one program that does just that,” said Colonel McDonough. “Many of our members have served in the Marine Corps, and we know firsthand the impact Toys for Tots has on helping needy children,” he added.

Over the last ten years, DPS has collected over 328,000 toys and over half a million dollars ($564,000) to benefit the Toys for Tots program.

In 2017, DPS collected 53,105 toys and $110,612 in monetary donations for the program.
