(SAVANNAH) -  On April 23-25, Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) officers with the Georgia Department of Public Safety conducted “Stop the Threat”, a three-day detail that focused on the unsafe operation of commercial motor vehicles (CMV).The detail took place along the I-95/I-16 corridor.

During the detail, MCCD officers issued citations for Following Too Closely (113 violations), Improper Lane Change (53 violations), and Distracted Driving (149 violations).  

“Most CMV drivers share the same belief that CMV safety is key to saving lives on Georgia’s roadways. Nevertheless, all motorists must strive to share the road safely and respectfully with one another,” stated Major Johnny Jones, MCCD Commanding Officer. “That is why conducting campaigns like ‘Stop the Threat’ are all the more important,” he added.

At the conclusion of the safety detail, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) hosted the 2019 Savannah Community Coalition Safety Summit at the Mighty Eight Museum. Speakers represented MCCD, FMCSA, Georgia Motor Trucking Association, the Georgia Department of Transportation, and the Georgia Port Authority. This educational event was designed to solicit input and to discuss commercial motor vehicle safety issues. Several speakers presented a wide variety of views and information focusing on crash causations, crash analytics, and active construction zone areas in Georgia.
