Legal Services

The Legal Services Office provides assistance to the Commissioner and to the employees of the Department concerning matters associated with the daily operations of the Department and serves as the primary liaison with the Office of the Attorney General.  The Legal Services Office also oversees the Department’s Administrative License Suspension (ALS) and Open Records units.

Members of the Legal Services Office serve as the agency representative at administrative hearings, to include ALS and Overweight hearings.  If you need information pertaining to an upcoming ALS or Overweight hearing, please visit the Office of State Administrative Hearings’ website at www.osah.ga.gov.

The Open Records Unit is responsible for processing Open Records requests in compliance with Georgia law.

Requests for records may be made by fax, email, or mail.

All records requests are subject to the Georgia Open Records Act and may result in the requestor being billed for the requested information. If you have questions, contact the DPS Open Records Unit.
